Before the full fledge of Jesus’ ministry, He was baptized of John (Matthew 3:15). Thereafter, the Holy Ghost came upon Him.
We should always keep this in mind that the life of Jesus on earth serves as an example for us christians; hence He was not baptized because He was a sinner but as a symbol to show the necessity of baptism.
Baptism is public declaration of faith in God acceptance of the Gospel of Christ.
It signifies freedom from the law of sin and death and acceptance of the grace of God through Jesus Christ – Matthew 3:11.
The fall of man in Eden brought condemnation upon us. We were separated from God, heading toward eternal doom. Sacrifices of rams and bull, though could appease God, could not atone for sin.
Jesus Christ, the creator (John 1:3) of man came into the world to rescue us. He was offered as a sacrifice to reconcile us with God. His death on the cross of calvary pave the way of salvation. He didn’t just die but rose again from the dead on the third day and was taken up to Heaven to sit at the right hand of God.
This is the gospel of Christ. He loves everyone, including you. That is why He came to die so that we may live forever in God’s presence – John 3:16.
Anyone who does not believe in Him will be cast into the lake of fire, where he’ll be tormented forever – Revelation 20:11-15, Mark 16:16, John 3:3
Anyone who believes, God will accept and forgives his sins – John 1:12, Acts 3:19, IICorinthians 6:17,18.
Once you are ready to forsake your sins, and have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, then you will be baptized- Acts 2:38; 8:36.
But that’s not all. You must hereafter begin to live the new life in Christ. You don’t go back to your old life anymore.
Baptism is not a guarantee that you will enter into the Kingdom of God. You must submit to the power of the Spirit of God and continue to have faith in Him.
There are people who are baptized but still live in sin. They are hypocrites and will be condemned.
What God want from us is true repentance. Only then will the Spirit of God come upon us. (Acts 8:9-22)
Don’t wait while time pass you by. Give your life to Christ and be saved from the wrath to come – John 3:36, Acts 4:12.
Jesus loves you!
